The purpose of the Circular Economy Act is to accelerate the EU’s transition to a more circular economy and increase its economic security, resilience, competitiveness and decarbonisation.
The NPG believes that the Circular Economy Act represents a unique opportunity to look beyond managing plastic, to reduce global plastics demand and to support new material innovation. By meaningfully integrating biological circularity and promoting the adoption of natural polymers through regulatory consistency and fair, harmonised EPR schemes, the EU can create a future where our reliance on plastic is reduced, and we reap the environmental and health benefits of a cleaner planet.
With the Act due for adoption in 2026, the European Commission launched a consultation and call for evidence in August 2025, to which the Natural Polymers Group submitted its response on 5 November 2026.
